How to extract multiple frames from a video

Quick answer

Use a burst capture to save a run of consecutive frames around a moment, or a range (interval) export to save one frame every few seconds across part of the video. In Frame Capture Premium, Burst saves 5 to 30 frames in one tap and Range saves up to 100 frames at 0.5, 1, 2 or 5-second intervals.

When you need more than one frame

  • Fast action: sports, pets and kids move fast. Saving a burst around the peak lets you choose the sharpest frame afterwards.
  • Sequences: show a movement step by step, such as a golf swing or a dance move.
  • Contact sheets and reviews: pull a frame every few seconds to skim a long clip, document a process, or pick thumbnail candidates.

Option 1: Burst capture (consecutive frames)

  1. Open the video in Frame Capture and move to just before the action.
  2. Tap save and set Capture mode to Burst.
  3. Choose how many frames (5, 10, 20 or 30) and the gap between them (100 ms to 1 s).
  4. Pick format and resolution, then tap Save all.

A short gap such as 100 ms captures nearly every moment of a quick action; a longer gap spreads the frames across a few seconds.

Option 2: Range export (one frame every few seconds)

  1. Open the save sheet and set Capture mode to Range.
  2. Set the start and end points of the section you want.
  3. Choose an interval: every 0.5, 1, 2 or 5 seconds (up to 100 frames per export).
  4. Tap Save all. All frames go to your gallery under Pictures/FrameCapture.

Tips

  • Enable "Save timestamp" so each file name records where in the video it came from.
  • Use JPG for large batches to save storage; switch to PNG only if you need lossless frames.
  • Review in Saved Frames. Long-press to multi-select frames you don't need and delete them in one go.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing a very long range with a short interval and filling up storage. Start with a short section.
  • Expecting more frames than the video has. A 30 fps video only has 30 distinct frames per second.

Burst and Range are Premium features in Frame Capture. Single-frame saves are available in the free version.

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract all frames from a video on Android?

Most phone apps extract a selection rather than every single frame. In Frame Capture, Range export saves up to 100 frames at intervals down to 0.5 seconds, and Burst saves up to 30 consecutive frames as close as 100 ms apart.

How do I extract one frame per second from a video?

Use a range or interval export with a 1-second interval. In Frame Capture, choose Range, set the start and end, select 1 s, and tap Save all.

Are burst frames saved at full resolution?

They are saved at the resolution you choose in the save sheet, up to the video's original resolution.
